How do I become a Poll Worker?
An individual who is interested in working at an election site may print and complete the application at the link below and submit to the Burnet County election administrator’s office. The office actively recruits poll workers and keeps a list of recruits. You may also directly contact one of the major political parties, a local political subdivision, or a precinct presiding judge to let them know of your interest.

What are some of the positions?
Each Election Day polling location has a minimum of three poll workers: a presiding judge, an alternate judge and at least one clerk. There is also a need for people to work as early voting clerks, testing board members, early voting ballot board members and at the central accumulation station.
Who appoints the workers?
•For early voting, the Elections Administrator designates the deputies.
•The county Commissioners Court appoints the presiding and alternate judges for two year terms in August of even-numbered years in accordance with the Texas Election Code. The names are provided by the county chairs of the major political parties.
•The election judge appoints the clerks.
•The elections administrator’s office secures judges for the joint local elections in May and submits the names to the local political subdivisions that are having elections.

Yes, bilingual poll workers are needed in most parts of the county.
Do I need to be a registered voter? What are the hours of service?
Yes, you must be a registered voter in Burnet County. Election Day work begins at 6 a.m. and normally ends at 7:30 p.m. It is preferred that clerks work the entire day but sometimes judges allow clerks to split the day. Workers are encouraged to bring their lunch and snacks.
Are workers paid and if so, how much? Is training provided?
Election Day judges are paid $11/hour and clerks are paid $10/hour. Primary elections have special rules. In-person training is provided in Burnet and is required; online Texas Secretary of State training is an option. NEW! Online video training for poll workers.
